Before getting into today’s newsletter, I would like to share a general note about my philosophy.
If you trade and invest like me, I think it is important to separate your differing strategies. For me, this means maintaining distinct portfolios (literally separate accounts) for each separate strategy.
There is a big difference between trading a stock and investing in a company. It is important not to conflate the two, as this can cloud judgment and erode discipline.
For me, investing in a company is simply buying and owning shares in a business. I evaluate the business on a quarterly basis, focusing on fundamentals and long-term growth. Over the long-term, a stock’s performance will mirror the performance of the business.
Trading, on the other hand, is tactical. My active trades have defined risk (not always a hard stop necessarily, but a max % loss you are willing to lose on the trade). For me, it is typically under -12% risk, and never exceeding more than -20% risk. I am always targeting a 2x1 reward-to-risk ratio, ideally higher.
I consider myself both a trader and investor, and I cover both approaches/strategies in detail here at Marlin Capital.
Long Term Investment Portfolios

This is my swing trading account. All buy and sell alerts are posted in the Marlin Capital Live Trading Room (via the Substack app) in real-time.
For new subscribers, I recommend reading my report “My 4 Rules for Successful Swing Trading” to familiarize yourself with the approach I take in my Active Trading Portfolio.
APH
Strong bounce back day for APH. I’m holding the remaining 1/4th of my long position up +33%.
HOOD
Still going. I guess yesterday’s candle was not a near-term top. I’m holding my remaining 1/4th portion now up +99% from our May 7th entry.
ORCL
Super strong day for ORCL finishing +5%. It was reported that the company reached a deal with OpenAI for more Stargate projects.
My first target here is $235+. My stop loss will stay at breakeven at $212.03 to ensure no loss on this trade.
